Essence-Suite-with-Hy-Lite-window

The Brentwood® Suite boasts a traditional design with toilet options of the Brentwood 1.6 or the Brentwood 1.28. Both feature elongated fronts with ADA-compliant SmartHeightTM seating and MagnaFlush high performance flushing technology. The suite includes five rectangular size choices of tubs (bath only, whirlpool systems or air systems), a self-rimming sink and an undercounter sink.

The Barrett Suite also comes in a traditional design with the Barrett 1.6 and Barrett 1.28 toilets with elongated bowls and SmartHeight seating. The Barrett Suite includes five options for rectangular-shaped bathtubs, whirlpool systems and air systems, plus a pedestal sink and a self-rimming sink.

The Essence Suite has a soft, transitional style that is clean and timeless. Five oval-shaped tub options include bath only, whirlpool systems and air systems. A self-rimming sink and pedestal sink with optional towel bar complete the suite.

The Montclair Suite features an eclectic personality — the perfect balance between traditional and modern elements. What’s the room in the home most visited during a normal day? You guessed it — the bathroom! As a focal part of the home, it makes sense to take a critical eye to your bathroom for comfort, style, water efficiency and energy efficiency. During Energy Awareness Month, Mansfield Plumbing has some tips to share!

For style, check out the Affordable Style Designer Series suite collection from Mansfield that provides coordinated tubs, toilets and sinks. And for comfort, nothing beats SmartHeight toilets that meet ADA requirements. These “tall toilets” make it easier to sit and stand up, especially for taller people or those with special needs.

For water efficiency, WaterSense rated toilets with 1.28 gallons per flush (Gpf) or lower help save water each time the toilet is used. These powerful low water use toilets are designed to remove waste yet can save on the use of water.

When it comes time to look at energy efficiency in the bathroom, start with your lighting. Many bathrooms have several light fixtures above the mirror near the sink. Replacing those light bulbs with ENERGY STAR qualified bulbs is a big step toward saving energy. Making sure that the lights and fan are turned off when exiting the bathroom can also help save on energy bills in the home.

A bathroom can and should be much more than a utilitarian space. In the best circumstances, it will be a place to gather your wits for the day ahead and unwind before bed.

But building a better bathroom is necessary before you can truly relax in this space. To create the perfect at-home oasis, consider coordinating your bathroom setting.

Mansfield - Pic - Waverly Suite (1280x855)

If you have ever replaced an appliance or fixture in your bathroom by necessity, you may have unintentionally created an uncoordinated look. If you’re tired of being mismatched, particularly in a space where you seek serenity, consider upgrading all your fixtures at once within one suite collection. Such coordination can provide a striking combination of style and performance.

Suite collections from Mansfield Plumbing are easy ways to create a unified look. For example, the Enso Suite offers a contemporary look with sleek lines, and the Waverly Suite offers a traditional English-inspired design.

Suites include the essential toilets, sinks and bathtubs, and in some cases, whirlpools or air massage tubs; and are also customizable for variables like size and optional fixtures. What’s more, this route makes good financial sense, as a suite collection offers less hassle and better value over a la carte purchases!

Before you start cruising Pinterest for inspiration or wind up at the tile shop in love with $20/sq ft flooring, these are my bathroom remodeling tips to consider in the early stages in hopes they’ll save you time and money.

bathroom_renovationBathroom Remodeling Tip #1: Know If You’re Doing a Remodel or an Update

Decide what level of bathroom update you really need to be happy with your new space at the end of the day—or year. It’s easy to look for bathroom design ideas on hundreds of blogs and end up wanting an $80,000 bathroom on a $10,000 budget. If your tile and floors are livable, a bathroom suite (coordinating bathtub, lavatory, and toilet) with fresh faucets may be enough change. If you feel compelled to start moving walls or plumbing, you’re in for a bathroom remodel and many more dollars.

Another rule of thumb is if you’ll be staying in your home fewer than five years, consider your remodel in terms of the return on investment. If you’re in for the long haul, do what you’ll love with less regard for how to make back your money. Either way, understanding the true extent of what you need to do is important before you start the creative process. Which leads me to…

Bathroom Remodeling Tip #2: Bathroom Pros Can Actually Save You Money

Most people think that calling an architect or a designer will blow the budget, but in my experience the cost of consulting professionals not only makes up for itself in fewer mistakes, but it often results in a better bathroom remodel. For instance, a local concrete counter designer was able to create a custom counter for me for the same price as something I would have ordered at a big box store, and you won’t find another counter exactly like it anywhere. Also by consulting this counter designer, I found out that a heavy counter wasn’t going to work on my existing cabinetry. We had to work around it by making the counter thinner and adding supports to the cabinetry. I wouldn’t have known this until it was late in the process and potentially quite expensive to fix. So don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and start calling bathroom professionals to look at your project; you will likely be surprised. Even if you’re planning to do it yourself, have someone come consult to make sure you’ve considered all the mechanics before you bring out the sledgehammer.

Bathroom Remodeling Tip #3: Budget For More Than Just the Big Stuff

Back in the day when I first started remodeling my bathrooms, I started the budget with what I assumed would be the highest priced parts: tile and flooring. But if you look around and document everything you’ll need—15 cabinet knobs and drawer pulls, two faucets, a new vent, towel bars, and light fixture, for instance—all those details can easily add up to as much as the cost of an entire bathroom suite.

Write down every detail you think you’ll want to change after you’ve decided on the extent of your bathroom remodel (see Tip #1 above), and start pulling together a budget that allows some wiggle room for plumbing mishaps and unexpected electrician visits.

Bonus! Bathroom Remodeling Tip #4: 2014 Only Has Twelve Months. Start Now!

Bathroom updates and kitchen remodels generally have hiccups along the way, sometimes big ones. Expect them and plan for your bathroom remodel to take much longer than you envisioned. If you’d like your bathroom to be completed in 2014, start making your calls now: interior designer, architect, custom cabinet maker, whomever you need to get the project ideas nailed down. Put your bathroom design ideas into an inspiration document or folder, and get your spreadsheet of needs together now, then be overjoyed if your new bathroom is ready this summer, instead of next December.

I went on a home tour this weekend, spending an entire day immersed in local customs. Custom perfectly-placed windows, custom concrete counters, custom reclaimed flooring. And I was struck by something. Many of the homes were older homes that had been reconfigured and redesigned, and in several there were original shallow ceramic tubs and run-of-the-mill toilets. Perhaps this was budgetary, perhaps intentional. Either way it was noticeable that an opportunity to turn a bathroom remodel into a soothing sojourn had been missed.

It’s easy to get the impression that turning a ho-hum bathroom into a luxurious spa retreat is beyond the average household budget. Enter, the bathroom suite. Suites typically feature some or all of the following: complementary bathroom vanities and sinks, bathtubs, and water-saving modern toilets. Sure, updating tile and getting a new fixture or two will freshen things up, but a bathroom suite can be affordable while creating a special ambiance that feels totally indulgent.

Enso_Suite-mark

Above is one example of our Mansfield Affordable Style Suites. What do you notice? Soaking tub, check. Modern bathroom vanity and sink, check. Contemporary toilet, check. This Enso bathroom collection sets the tone for a spa sanctuary that is entirely within reach, and there are many options within any suite.

Here are a few things to know about your choices:

  1. Bathtubs come in a variety of sizes. Just because this tub might appear too large for your smallish bathroom remodel doesn’t mean there isn’t a version of this very same bathtub that will fit your dimensions. Generally, there are at least four different dimensions available
  2. While we’re talking about affordable luxuries, you should also know that these bathtubs come as soaking tubs, whirlpool tubs (three options), and air massage tubs (three options). Can you feel your shoulders relaxing already?
  3. Not only are modern toilets affordable, they also save money because they’re more efficient. Contemporary toilets can make a statement, or not. But consistency is beautiful, and you get that when the toilet is part of a collection.
  4. Bathroom vanities and sinks are where a lot of remodels focus attention, and rightly so. It’s an easy way to bring something unique to a bath. If you look at the suite above and think, “But I want a drop-in sink,” (what’s known in the industry as a self-rimming lavatory), it’s helpful to know that just as bathtubs come with options, so do bathroom sinks. Choose from a self-rimming or pedestal sink in most any bathroom suite.

Ultimately, a bathroom suite will not only up your enjoyment of your space, but it helps set the tone for the bathroom: modern organic, traditional home, clean and sharp, spa retreat. The tile and fixture details come easily from there and are equally simple to customize. There’s something really enjoyable about the fluidity of a bathroom suite. And, forgive the shameless self promotion, but a Mansfield Affordable Style Suite costs less than any comparably equipped collection on the market, so it’s very doable.

Now, how about a lovely soak at the end of this hectic day? The Romans did it for a reason.
